| EBI's Research Methodology EBI is continuously engaged in performing primary and secondary business and market intelligence research. EBI's business segment survey methodology starts with an understanding of the total universe of companies in that segment in a database and knowledge of the top 20-100 companies. EBI then makes every effort to ascertain annual sales of the top firms and randomly sample or response survey the remaining populace to build a statistically valid model for that segment. Segments that EBI surveys in this detailed manner include: consulting & engineering, remediation, air pollution control equipment, analytical services, water/wastewater, etc. Lists of top companies and sales figures and basic breakdowns on specific companies are presented with a disclaimer. Secondary research is fairly standard -- review of published material, i.e. books, reports, publications and databases (both hardcopy and electronic, via the internet). However, it is the ongoing primary research that sets EBI apart from all other publication, research or consulting companies in this industry. The following brief paper explains in some detail the methods used by EBI to arrive at its industry/market size estimates, i.e. its primary research methodology.
